Semilunar Eyelid Crease

A semilunar eyelid crease describes the shape and excursion of the fold that may occur either naturally or be surgically created in the upper eyelid.

A semilunar crease means that the eyelid fold runs parallel to the eyelid's edge along its full course except in the middle third, where it peaks slightly higher. The crease looks more rounded, as may the eye.

Semilunar is a common natual crease shape in non-Asian Western eyelids but quite uncommon in younger Asian lids. In some elderly Asian patients, fat loss in the socket may cause the crease shape to become semilunar. Other common crease shapes are tapered, parallel, and lateral flare.
