SOOF is an abbreviation that stands for the sub oribularis oculi fat pad of the upper cheek. Located just below the eyelid's closing muscle, the SOOF is sometimes lifted upwards during lower blepharoplasty surgery to try to reposition the cheek and decrease depressions like the tear trough.
Above the eye, a similar fat pad sits atop the upper lid under the eyebrow. This sub-brow fat pad is sometimes called the ROOF, or retro orbicularis oculi fat.
Modern eyelid surgery operations respect the integrity of both the SOOF and ROOF fat pads, neither of which is removed or thinned during blepharoplasty.
